The biggest operator of international express coach routes in the Baltic region starts working in Finland

The first route St.Petersburg – Helsinki takes place on the 2nd of June 2014 at 13:30, the ticket sale starts on 15th of April. The company will have 6 departures to Helsinki and back per day:

  • St. Petersburg - Helsinki
    • Departure at 06:14, arrival at 12:45
    • Departure at 11:30, arrival at 18:00
    • Departure at 23:30, arrival at 06:00
  • Helsinki - St. Petersburg
    • Departure at 08:00, arrival at 16:30
    • Departure at 14:00, arrival at 22:30
    • Departure at 21:30, arrival at 06:00

The route has additional stops in Rajahovi immediately after crossing the Finnish border, in Kotka next to Leikari hotel (Rantahaka) and in the south harbor of Helsinki (Olympiaterminaali). The busses will cross the border without queues, as the departure times are coordinated with the Ministries of Transport of both countries. The journey takes 7,5 hours.

The price of morning departures is 25 EUR in one direction, of other departures - 32 EUR. The buses that will operate between St. Petersburg and Helsinki are new and comfortable – these are IRIZAR i6 models, manufactured by SCANIA. The buses contain 56 seats (of which 54 are passenger seats) and there are individual touch screen media systems BusPad, installed into every seat. Such devices allow to watch movies, listen to the music, play games and surf on the Internet. In fact, there are no other transporters offering such services on St. Petersburg – Helsinki route.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Lux Express Group, Hannes Saarpuu, in 2014 10 new busses with BusPad media systems will be added to the Lux Express fleet. 3,4 million euros are invested in the project. “3 new busses will operate on the St. Petersburg – Helsinki route, 3 more will operate on the St. Petersburg – Riga. Moreover, we are planning to gradually replace the buses operating on St. Petersburg –Tallinn route.” – says Hannes Saarpuu. In 2013 similar busses equipped with touch screen media systems started to operate on Tallinn – Riga and Riga – Vilnius routes. Consequently, the profit of the routes gained 20%. On 18 March 2014 Lux Express Group opened the sales of another new route - Vilnius – Warsaw – Prague, the first departure takes place on 29 May. Similarly, the buses going to Prague are equipped with BusPad media systems.

Last year Lux Express Group totally carried 717,900 passengers (by 8% more, than the year before); 326,776 of them travelled on St. Petersburg – Riga and St. Petersburg – Tallinn routes, what makes 46% of the overall passengers’ amount. In 2014 the company plans to enlarge the passenger traffic to reach 850,000 passengers total, half of which will be carried on St. Petersburg – Tallinn, St. Petersburg – Riga and St. Petersburg – Helsinki routes.

 Short information on the company:

Lux Express Group was founded in 1992 in Tallinn by Estonian entrepreneur Hugo Osula. The company’s Russian office was opened in 1997. For more than 10 years, the company had been working as Eurolines franchise. Afterwards two own brands were created – Lux Express and Simple Express. From July 2011 all Lux Express Group departures have been operating under these brands. The company owns more than 50 modern busses and works on 14 routes.
